Based on the rise of the Roc and its principal lyrical architect, Jay Z. Again, it was supposed to be a study for future pieces or a series, but never really went back to it. Mind you, at this time I was a new husband and father, and did my artwork in between working a 9to9 so my spare time was limited.

This was another LL study, using some elements of graff and Picasso' Guernica piece. Todd has been a long time battle tested MC and been in the ring with some of the best, and lways managed to stay on his feet. LL was the dopest MC out at one time, and then sort of fell off, but has continued to come back with some dope records. Never count one of Queens' finest out and never call it a comeback.

This painting sparked many future pieces based on LL Cool J-its not really a Cubist painting but as we know, Picasso was inspired by African sculpture, so I went back to the essence and remixed his face as I would depict some of the modern Nigerian wooden pieces I saw.

Kool G Rap is another king of the culture-his rapid fire alliteration with a patented lisp makes him one of the best spitters ever. After Spooney G, he repped East Coast gangsta rap before it was coined as such. "Riker's Island" and "Its a Demo" were the first jams I heard from G-Rap, and I was fan from then on. The painting reflects his persona on the mic, a Queens Scarface who painted vivid pictures of the fast life in NYC, and influenced countless future MCs like Nas & Big Pun.

This is a study painting I never really finished-wanted to do a series on Rakim, and this was going to be the first work in the series. I will go back eventually to clarify some of his facial features, because he remains one of our icons of the culture.
